ARGYLE, TX - In what is already being called an instant classic, the Midland Christian Mustangs pulled off a miraculous 66-63 comeback victory over the Argyle Liberty Christian Warriors on Friday night, August 21, 2026.
The Warriors appeared to have the game locked away early, exploding to a dominant 28-0 lead in the first half. Liberty Christian’s offensive fireworks were led by quarterback C. Messer, who threw for 299 yards and 6 touchdowns, alongside a relentless ground game from C. Buckhalter, who torched the defense for 247 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns on 21 carries.
Franco Takes Over
The Mustangs refused to back down. Led by an unforgettable, career-defining performance from quarterback Jaxon Franco, Midland Christian began chipping away at the deficit. Franco completely dismantled the Warriors’ secondary, throwing for a staggering 588 yards and 7 touchdowns. His primary target, P. Ross, proved unstoppable, hauling in 7 receptions for 220 yards and a touchdown.
A Wild Finish
The two high-powered offenses traded blows in a chaotic, high-scoring second half. The thrilling, seesaw battle was ultimately decided in the final moments. Midland Christian kicker Andrew Buckingham drilled a clutch, late field goal to break the tie, securing the jaw-dropping 66-63 victory and completing one of the greatest comebacks in Texas high school football history.
