The Midland Christian boys cross-country team won the inaugural Mae Simmons Open, Friday at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.
Senior standout Braden Belew led the Mustangs by finishing first among all individuals with a time of 16 minutes, 7 seconds in the boys 5,000-meter race. MCS (39 points) held off second-place Midland Classical (44) for the team win in the boys race.
Midland Christian’s Logan Hammontree finished third (16:48); Midland Classical’s James Clark was sixth (17:11.00); Midland Classical’s Austin Cook came in seventh (17:22); Midland TLCA’s Evan Wymore was eighth (17:24); Midland Christian’s John Ellis finished 11th (17:59) and Midland Classical’s Locke Bundy was 12th (18:06) in a race that featured 67 runners.
