Midland Christian QB Ryver Rodriguez powered his team to a 42-37 regional playoff win vs Ft. Worth Nolan Catholic on Saturday. Ryver led the team with 219 yards rushing and scored 4 TD on the ground. With that effort, the Senior Captain became the top rushing QB in Midland Christian history. Ryver now holds the MCS record for most career rushing yards by a QB (2,696 yards) and most career rushing TD by a QB (42 TD). Ryver passed former MCS QB Peyton Powell who had 2,608 career rushing yards and 38 career rushing TD on 308 carries from 2016-2017. In his third season as the starting QB of the Mustangs, Ryver broke the records on 56 fewer carries (252 total). Only 3 players in MCS history have more career rushing yards than Ryver - Running Backs Christian Whigham (4,634), Hunter Redman (3,481), and Justin Fender (3,223). In 11 games this season, Ryver has tallied 1,494 rushing yards and 30 rushing TD. Only 2 players in MCS history have scored more rushing TD in a single season. Christian Whigham scored 43 TD in 2011 and Courtney Greer scored 33 TD in 2004. The dual threat QB has also thrown for the exact same number of TD (42) in his career. Ryver has 4,375 career passing yards (5th most) and has the 4th most completions in MCS history with 321. Ryver Rodriguez and the Midland Christian Mustangs will take on the Central Catholic Buttons in the TAPPS Division 1 State Semifinals at 6:00 PM on Saturday, November 27, 2021.
