Midland Christian Football began in 1981 as a small private school team and has grown into one of the powerhouse programs in Texas High School football. It played as a charter member of the New-Tex Christian Football Conference beginning in those earlier years, in which the Mustangs won two conference titles.
In 1990, the Mustangs joined the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools new 6-Man division and played in the State Finals that year. From 1991-1995 The Mustangs won 5 TAPPS 6-Man State Titles in a row, still one of the best runs in Texas High School history.
The Mustangs moved to the 11-Man ranks in 1996 and instantly became a state playoff contender. The Mustangs won their first 11-Man State Title in 2000, repeated that feat in 2001 and has won State Titles in 2004, 2006, 2011, 2012 and 2013. It is recognized as one of the top high school football teams in all of TAPPS.

Greg McClendon is entering his 20th season at the helm of Mustang Football. In that span, the program has experienced the most success in it's storied history winning 7 state championships amassing a 169-67 record. The Mustangs are again poised to compete for the district title and make another run at a state championship in 2017. Greg is married to Susan McClendon and the two have (2) children Mason and Megan.
